The Indus Hospital Offers Quality Pediatric Oncology Nursing Education to Nurses from Different Countries

The Indus Hospital has been conducting a two-week educational and training course for Pediatric Oncology Nurses to enhance their skills and knowledge in Infection control, Chemotherapy administration, Critical care, and pain and palliation. The purpose to establish this course was to encourage Pediatric Oncology Nurses to provide quality and uniform care to the vulnerable population in Pakistan as well as in other lower middle income countries. The twentieth, two-week course has successfully completed on December 12, 2019.

The course has gained international recognition through the years on the basis of its extensive and holistic educational program. This is one-of-a-kind program which is only offered by the Indus Hospital. The program is offered biannually. Sanofi Espoir Foundation supports the program through My Child Matters grant.

The course participants built up their knowledge about Pediatric Oncology and its nursing care, medication, and chemotherapy drugs along with their safe administration, nutritional, and psychological support. They were encouraged to observe the practices by being at the patient’s bedside for few days. The course content is regularly updated and the training quality is evaluated by participants.

27 participants from Pakistan and 2 participants from Zambia attended the course. Since the beginning, 370 nurses from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Tanzania, and Ethiopia have benefited from this course.
