Indus Health Network (IHN) is making a humanitarian alliance with the MedGlobal. MedGlobal is a USA-based group of physicians who are working to address the health needs of the most vulnerable communities across the world. It responds to the humanitarian crises by partnering with communities to provide innovative, sustainable, and dignified healthcare.
In an effort to serve Pakistan, MedGlobal Joined hands with the Global Health Directorate of the Indus Health Network and has deployed a short-term mission to Pakistan. The mission comprised of 17 doctors: Dr. Hena Ibrahim, Pediatrician at Saint Anthony Hospital and Member of Board of Directors of MedGlobal; Dr. Heather Draper, Clinical Pharmacist in Emergency Medicine at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Dr. Henna Qureshi, Pediatrician at the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children in Virginia; Dr. Sadaf Lodhi, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, ; Dr. Paul Holtrop, Neonatologist, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine; Dr. Jeff Pollard, Clinical Associate Professor of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Calgary, Canada; Dr. Sarah Shihadeh, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York, USA; Dr. Mark Supino, Emergency Medicine, Cook County Hospital, Chicago USA; Dr. Michael Drusano, Family-Medicine Physician, USA; Ms. Harriet Hawkins, Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse, USA; Dr. Saad Feroz, Pediatrician at Fairfax Children’s Hospital, Virginia; Dr. Fozia Saleem-Rasheed, Neonatalogist in Michigan, USA; Dr. Aisha Mirza, Associate Clinical Professor in Emergency and Family Medicine, University of Alberta; Dr. Sharad Patel, Critical Care Specialist, Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, USA; Dr. Ludwig Koeneke-Hernandez, Emergency Medicine, Jackson Memorial Hospital.; Dr. Bess Storch, Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, USA; and Dr. Minal Ahson, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of South Florida, USA, aims at providing training, technology transfer, and donating medical equipment. In their current visit to The Indus Hospital (now evolved as Indus Health Network), the team is conducting the following trainings:
- Helping Babies Breath is an internationally-recognized program which aims to educate health practitioners in identifying and administering life-saving measures on babies who are in danger within first few minutes of life.
- Ultrasound Training will focus on different body systems review and interpretation on butterfly ultrasound technology. The technology will allow ultrasounds to be reviewed on hand-held devices and can be used in low-resource settings.
- Compassion and Empathy The team is also training healthcare staff about Compassion and Empathy.
A meet and greet session was conducted on Sunday, November 17, 2019. Dr. Zafar Zaidi, Senior Executive Director, Academics and Projects Directorate; Dr. Shamvil Ashraf Executive Director, Medical Services; Dr. Ashar Alam, Medical Director, TIH; and Saira Khowaja, Executive Director, Global Health Directorate, IHN were present.
During the meeting Dr. Hena Ibrahim, Member of the Board of Director, MedGlobal and Saira Khowaja, spoke about the collaboration.
